Rubus idaeus (Rosaceae)

Jana Gertler, Minstrel, 1980
The bright atmosphere of the Minstrel camouflages the monologue-like musical appearance. In the luminous nostalgic state of after-break cover, David himself contemplates us. The quietude and the state of calmness make the unheard melody vibrate even after the violin bow is silent. The gingery asperities of the works have savour, and the dense texture of the burnt granules must be felt in ancient key. The mythical figure of the young man, conceived as if from the dust of Petra, is torn from the mysterious legends of the past. I do not know why they give me the impression that he just sang for the righteous.

Auguste Rodin, Calaijski meščani /The Burghers of Calais /Les Bourgeois de Calais
The Burghers of Calais, commemorating an episode during the Hundred Years’ War between England and France, is probably the best and certainly the most successful of Rodin’s public monuments. Rodin closely followed the account of the French chronicler Jean Froissart stating that six of the principal citizens of Calais were ordered to come out of the besieged city with heads and feet bare, ropes around their necks, and the keys of the town and the castle in their hands. They were brought before the English king Edward III, who ordered their beheading. Rodin portrayed them at the moment of departure from their city led by Eustache de Saint-Pierre, the bearded man in the middle of the group. At his side, Jean d’Aire carries a giant-sized key. Their oversized feet are bare, several have ropes around their necks, and all are in various states of despair, expecting imminent death and unaware that their lives will ultimately be saved by the intercession of the English queen Philippa. The arrangement of the group, with its unorthodox massing and subtle internal rhythms, was not easily settled.

Malatesta Temple /Tempio Malatestiano, Rimini
The Tempio Malatestiano is the unfinished cathedral church of Rimini, Italy. Officially named for St. Francis, it takes the popular name from Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who commissioned its reconstruction by the famous Renaissance theorist and architect Leon Battista Alberti around 1450. San Francesco was originally a thirteenth-century Gothic church belonging to the Franciscans. The original church had a rectangular plan without side chapels, with a single nave ending with three apses. The central one was probably frescoed by Giotto, to whom is also attributed the crucifix now housed in the second right chapel. Malatesta called on Alberti, as his first ecclesiastical architectural work, to transform the building and make it into a kind of personal mausoleum for him and his lover and later his wife, Isotta degli Atti. The execution of the project was handed over to the Veronese Matteo di Andrea de’ Pasti, hired at the Estense court. Of Alberti’s project, the dome that appears in Matteo’s foundation medal of 1450—similar to that of the Pantheon of Rome and intended to be among the largest in Italy—was never built.

Navadni kaprovec /Capparis spinosa
Listi so premenjalno razporejeni, enostavni, širokojajčasti do okroglasti, celorobi, 1-6 cm dolgi in približno enako široki, topi ali izrezani, debeli, kratkopecljati, ob žilah včasih nekoliko rdečkasto obarvani. Cvetovi izraščajo posamezno v osi listov in so hitro minljivi, saj zjutraj zacvetijo, sredi dneva pa že ovenijo. Cvetovi so dolgopecljati in 5-7 cm široki.

Named after Pope Sixtus IV, the Sistine Chapel is perhaps the most famous chapel in the world. It is renowned both for its function as the Papal Conclave and for its incredible artwork. The ceiling and western wall of the Sistine Chapel are adorned with some of the most astonishing paintings in the world created by the famous artist. The middle section depicts nine stories from the Book of Genesis, including the renowned ‘Creation of Adam’ where the hand of God is seen reaching to Adam to instill him with life. Despite being one of the most celebrated works of art in history, Michelangelo was originally hesitant to paint the ceiling of the chapel for he considered himself as more of a sculptor than a painter.

Najvišji, vsemogočni, dobri Gospod, / tebi hvala, slava in čast in ves blagoslov. / Tebi, najvišjemu, edinemu pristoji / in nihče ni vreden tebe imenovati. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, z vsemi tvojimi stvarmi, / posebno s soncem, velikim bratom, / ki razsvetljuje dneve in nas. / Lepo je in v velikem sijaju žari. / Tebe, Najvišji, odseva. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, v sestri luni in zvezdah; / ustvaril si jih na nebu jasne, dragocene in lepe. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, v bratu vetru in zraku, / v oblačnem in jasnem, / sploh vsakem vremenu, / s katerim ohranjaš svoje stvari. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, v naši sestri vodi; / mnogo koristi ponižna, dobra in čista. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, v našem bratu ognju, / v katerem nam noč razsvetljuješ; / lep je in vesel in krepak in močan. // Hvaljen, moj Gospod, v naši sestri zemlji, / ki nas kakor mati hrani in nam gospodinji, / in prinaša različno sadje / in pisane rože z zelenjem.

This work was painted at Le Havre in 1873. It was one of the nine works that he showed at the First Impressionist Exhibition of 1874. Of all those displayed there, this is probably the most famous picture, not so much because of any crucial status within Monet’s oeuvre, but rather for the criticism it attracted from the reviewers, which gave rise to the name of the movement.

“The conception of time that has a butterfly, a flower, a tree, an animal, a man, a stone, a mountain, a river, an ocean, a continent, an atom, produces the infinite variety of thought and forms of the universe.”

Former gas-jet, now multifunctional Gong hall, Dolní Vítkovice, Ostrova, Czehe republic
An incorporation into the historical gasholder structure has sensitively restored this industrial construction into an extraordinary multifunctional centre. University students are taught here, international conferences and congresses are held here, even employee workshops and training or leading artists exhibitions take place here. A unique space solution, capacity together with the top audio-visual technology makes all of this possible. There is a multipurpose gallery on the ground floor, variably moveable conference rooms on the first floor, a foyer and a great hall with a capacity of 1500 spectators on the third and fourth floors.

Golubački grad /Cetatea Golubăț /The Golubac Fortress
Medieval fortified town on the south side of the Danube River, 4 km downstream from the modern-day town of Golubac, Serbia. Marks the entrance to the Đerdap national park. It is strategically located on the embankment of the Danube River where it narrows to form the Iron Gate gorge. The name of the fortress and the modern town in its vicinity can be translated as the “Pigeon city” or the “Dove city”. Myth tell about beautiful Serbian girl named Golubana. A local Turkish pasha fell in love with her, but she loved a young Serbian man and rejected all the proposals and expensive gifts from the pasha. Angered, he took her down in a boat and either imprisoned her in the only cone-roofed tower, or tied her to the rock above the river and left her there until she died.
